Our Story & Vision

Our purpose is to remove the barriers that can prevent people from making and experiencing exceptional music. We create welcoming opportunities for singers, players and audiences to come together, experience ambitious music making and feel part of a community where everyone has a place.

Our values shape everything we do. We believe in excellence without exclusion, creating opportunities where people feel welcomed, valued and part of something. We bring communities together through music, encourage people to challenge themselves and grow, and create space for new ideas, new experiences and new possibilities.

South West Philharmonia & Chorus is the flagship ensemble of Ensemble One, bringing singers and players together from across the region to experience ambitious, large scale choral and orchestral music making. At its heart is a welcoming musical community with a shared passion for creating memorable performances and bringing exceptional live music to audiences across the South West.

Ensemble One is founded and led by conductor and musical director Marcus Alleyne, supported by experienced musical leadership across both choir and orchestra. Together, the team is committed to ambitious music making, creating welcoming spaces where singers and players can develop, challenge themselves and achieve something
